Primula auricula L. ssp. serratifolia (Rochel) Jav.

Flora Europaea where the endemic subspecies is not recognized.

the original Linnean specimen for the typical species

The taxon is evaluated as subspecific and endemic for Valcan, Mehedinti, Cernei and Godeanu mountainous massifs which makes the western most part of the Meridional Carpathians in Romania. The south-western Romanian endemic subspecies is figured and characterized with acute clear dentate leaf margins in opposition with the typical one which would have crenate or sinuate-dentate leaves. In fact, as it can be seen also from the Linnean type (see the link to the left) the margin of leaves in the typical species can be from acute dentate up to sinuate-crenate (here) and subentire (see here). In the photographs below the individuals from Mehedinti Mountains have subentire leaves which according to our observations is the case for almost all the individuals in the Romanian populations.
